Purpose: This dataset has been produced to present 2018 Urban Heat Islands and urban vegetation for the metro Melbourne region. The Mesh Blocks geography will assist users to perform spatial analysis to support policy and local decision making.

Positional Accuracy: Equivalent to the source ABS SA1 dataset Positional Accuracy.
Atribute Accuracy: The UHI attribute value is based on the average difference in Land Surface Temperature (LST) in Melbourne┐s metropolitan areas to a non-urban baseline LST. Indicative photogrammetric results: accuracy in easting, northing and height = 0.3m, 0.3m, and 0.3m. Measures trees, shrubs and grasses. Omission errors include dead grasses, grasses occluded by trees, and possibly deciduous trees at the time of data capture. Indicative overall accuracy for vegetation cover is better than 90% as estimated from 3 regions repeated for 2 dates to provide 6 estimates. Range from regions 90-98%.
Logical Consistency: There are no overlaps, invalid geometries, or duplicates.
Data Source: The features are derived from the 2016 ABS Statistical Area Level 1 (SA1) boundaries, Landsat-8 derived Land Surface Temperature (LST) and vegetation by modified Mesh Blocks as at 2014 along with population and socio-economic data sourced from 2016 ABS Census.
