If you want to undertake place names research away from your computer and the internet you can print out Data entry forms Data entry forms to work with. Detailed information for using these sheets is available in the Instructions . Using these sheets means you won't forget vital research details that you'll need when inputting the information through the internet database.

How your Historical Information and Personal Details will be used

Please note that your submission will be verified before the information is made available on-line for public viewing.

When you submit historical information to the database the Historical Content Administrator (HCA) for your area will automatically be contacted to verify your historical information before it is made available to the public. The HCA will contact you should there be any further details or amendments required before your information can be viewed by the public.

We therefore require your contact details in case the HCAs need further information to help with verification of your submission. Your personal details will be treated with confidentiality at all times and will not be made available when your submission has been verified and published on-line.

Australian National Place Names Survey

This database is part of the wider Australian National Place Names Survey (ANPS) research project.

Information entered into the VICNAMES database will be sent to and used in the ANPS database.
