Locate Survey Mark Help
There are four types of reports available which can be created for one or many survey marks.
Getting a Survey Mark Reports is easy, in 3 steps you will be able to search, select the survey mark(s) required, select the report(s) you require and then view / print your reports.
Step 1: Search
There are seven text based search options and an interactive map selection option to find survey marks.
The first search finds survey marks by name.
The other searches offer different ways to use coordinates to find survey marks in an area.
The text based searches are:
Survey Mark Search
Search for one or many marks, by: Parish Name, Nine Figure codes, Trigonometric and Alternative Names and Stamped ID.
Mark Name :
- Shepparton - returns all marks with names starting with "Shepparton", including marks registered in the Parish of Shepparton
- Shepparton PM - returns all marks registered in the Parish of Shepparton
- Shepparton PM 45 - returns just Shepparton PM 45
- She - returns all marks registered in the Parishes starting with SHE (Shelbourne, Shelford, Shelford West, Shepparton & Sherwood) and all other marks with names starting with "SHE" (such as SHELTON or Avenel PM 40)
- Mark Name requires at least three characters
Nine Digit Number :
- 348600100 - returns Shepparton PM 10
- 3486 - returns all marks with a nine digit number beginning with 3486 (3486xxxxx). The more numbers entered, the smaller the results
- Nine Digit Field requires at least four digits
Stamped ID :
- 77102 - returns all marks with the Stamped ID beginning with 77102, which is Shepparton PM 717
- 7 - returns all marks that have a Stamped ID beginning with 7 (over 490 marks)
Coordinates Search
Enter a pair of coordinates and a radius. The search area is a square, not a circle.
Select the Coordinate Type you are using for the search.
- MGA94 Zone 55 coordinates (East - 233220, North - 5986950), with a radius of 250m - returns all marks within a 500m x 500m square centred on the coordinates, which is Jarklan PM 1
Melways/VicRoads Search
Enter Melway or VicRoads Map and Grid Reference and radius
Melway/VicRoads Search :
- VicRoads Map 50, Grid G7, radius 500m - returns all marks within a 1000m x 1000m square centred on the centre of the VicRoads Grid, which is Nowyeo PM 3 (or Nelse).
Address Search
Enter an address - the Unit number and Postcode are ignored. You do not have to fill all the fields.
- If the combination of Street Name, Street Type, and Locality is not unique,
you will see a list of matching names - select one street name combination and click on Next.
- The selected road name is then used to search for matching addresses -
if the Street Number you entered cannot be found, (or you did not enter a street number),
you will see a list of available addresses - select one or more addresses and click on Next.
- The coordinates of the selected addresses will then be used to search for survey marks.
If there are no addresses available for a road name - for example in rural areas -
the coordinates of the approximate centre of the road segment itself will be used.
Lot on Plan Search
Only live lots can be found - a lot which has been subsequently subdivided or consolidated cannot be found.
Enter a Lot (optional), select a Plan Type, and enter a Plan Number.
- If a unique match cannot be found, you will see a list of available Lots
- select one or more Lots and click on Next.
- If a unique match can be found, the Lot is automatically selected, and you will not see the list.
- The coordinates of the selected lots will then be used to search for survey marks.
Crown Description Search
Only live parcels can be found - a parcel which has been subsequently subdivided or consolidated cannot be found.
Crown descriptions are generally one level (Allotment 23) or two levels (Allotment 5 of Section 10).
However, in some areas, the names of the levels are different, and the description could be "Allotment 2 of Portion 5" or "Portion 3A of Section 27".
Enter the first level in the Crown Allotment field, and the second (if it exists) in the Crown Section field, no matter what they are actually called.
The database stores NO SEC instead of a blank Section field - enter NO SEC in the Section field to search for allotments with no section.
Many areas in Mildura have a third level called "Block" - eg. Allotment 15 of Section 32 of Block F. These parcels have been given new identifiers (eg. Lot 1 TP 126543) and their previous Crown identifiers cannot be used for searching.
Start typing the Parish or Township name, and matching names will fill the list above.
You can then select a parish name from the list, and it will appear in the Parish/Township Name field.
You cannot select the top name in the list, which is why you will see the first name twice.
If there are no parish names matching what you type, the parish list will be empty.
- If a unique match cannot be found, you will see a list of available Crown Allotments
- select one or more Allotments and click on Next.
- If a unique match can be found, the Allotment is automatically selected, and you will not see the list.
- The coordinates of the selected Allotments will then be used to search for survey marks.
Survey Label Search
You can search for any of the Survey Labels shown on the map.
They include Crown (CPO) and Titles Office (LTO) information such as
- Crown survey numbers (eg. OP 104952), Crown plan numbers (eg. S169E), Certificates of Adjustment (eg. CA7240)
- LTO Plan numbers, both current and superseded (eg. LP124562), Applications (eg. AP1234)
- If a unique match cannot be found, a list of matching labels will be displayed - select one or more labels and click on Next.
- If a unique match is found, the label is automatically selected, and you will not see the list.
- Common labels such as RECREATION RESERVE will not give useful results, as there are so many, and the list gives no indication of their location.
- The coordinates of the selected labels will then be used to search for survey marks.
Search Results
Note: The number of marks returned by a search is dependent on the search criteria. If no results are found, click the "Previous" button to modify your search.
Step 2: Select the survey mark(s)
On the Search Results page, place a tick for one or more of the survey marks found on the left-hand side of the results. Navigate through the pages of results using the page numbers or "<" and ">" buttons at the top and bottom of the results. All selections will be saved as you navigate between pages. At the bottom of the results page are options to Clear and Select (Marks on Page or All Marks).
When scrolling through multiple pages, you can "Show Selected Only" to display only the marks that have ticks on the left-hand side of the results.
Step 3: Select Report
Select the format (HTML or PDF) and click "Brief Report", "Full Report" or "Sketches" (only available in PDF) at the bottom right of the results page, you may need to scroll to the bottom of the page. Large number of marks will return a larger report and be slower to open.

You can then select a parish name from the list, and it will appear in the Parish Name field.
You cannot select the top name in the list, which is why you will see the first name twice.
If there are no parish names matching what you type, the parish list will be empty.
Select the number of marks to reserve, and click on Reserve Marks.
You will then see the new reserved mark numbers.
Click on List Marks to see a list of all marks currently reserved by you.
You can "un-reserve" mark numbers you no longer need.
Update Marks
You can update the coordinates and details of survey marks.
- To enter details for one of your reserved marks, click on List Marks, and select the relevant mark.
- To enter details for a new PCM, enter the new PCM number.
- To enter details for an existing mark, enter the mark name and/or number.
Enter the new information - the three sections (Horizontal Data, Vertical Data, Other) are independent, and need not all be filled in.
Click on Update Mark to save the new information.
