Abstract: The Gippsland Lakes Local Coastal Hazard Assessment (LCHA) provides information on the extent of coastal hazards and their physical impacts for the Gippsland Lakes coastal environment.

This data represents the extent of the 1% Average Exceedance Probability (AEP) water level within the Gippsland Lakes, incorporating a +0.2m increase in mean sea level (MSL) conditions based on hydrodynamic modelling. The 1% AEP water level conditions comprise of a combination of catchment generated inflows, coastal ocean levels and wind setup.

Positional Accuracy: The mapping utilises modelling results produced at 50 m cell resolution and is considered to have a 1:10,000 mapping scale for the polygon extent dataset.

Logical Consistency: Results have been compiled with the 1% AEP scenarios for the mean sea level rise scenario.
Data Source: Hydrodynamic modelling for the Gippsland Lakes shoreline. The hydrodynamic modelling was undertaken using a flexible mesh model which incorporated grid elements ranging from 20m to approximately 200m along different sections of the shoreline, depending on the topographic features that were being resolved and the level of output detail required. The Water Surface Elevation results were resampled to a 10 m grid and intersected with the project 10 m DEM to provide a 10 m gridded product. This was converted to a polygon extent. The Digital Elevation Model used for the modelling was developed with a 10m grid cell resolution derived from the DEPI elevation data sets : Victorian Coastal (1m grid cell resolution), Gippsland Lakes Flood Level Modelling DEM and A manual modification to account for the changes in the Paynesville Marina area.
