Abstract: This package of data contains flood extent, contour and spot height features derived from various flood studies, reports, plans and imagery. It includes both modelled and observed data. It comprises 3 main data groups, containing a total of 26 seperate layers, with data groups as follows:
Modelled Flood Extents: Extent_{n}y_ARI, where n = 5,10,20,30,50,100,200,500,1000 year intervals
Modelled Flood Contours: Contour_{n}y_ARI, where n = 5,10,20,50,100,200 year intervals
Other flood datasets: Floodway, Historic_extents, Historic_height_pt, Historic_contours, Flow_direction, Flood_structure, Levee, Levee_spotheight, Running_distance.

Purpose: Victoria Flood Database is a collection of observed and modelled flood information. It is used for risk assessment, strategic planning and emergency response. The Extent_100y_ARI and Floodway layers are used to develop flood-specific zones and ovelays in the Municipal Planning Schemes. This collective data forms the basis for web-based interactive flood response mapping tool known as FLOODMAP.

Maintainence and Update Frequency: Continual
Stored Data Format: SDE
Available Format(s) Types: DIGITAL - All major formats available
Lineage: Primary & Derived
Positional Accuracy: Varies from 10cm to 100m. Reliability and modification date fields indicate source and relative reliability of individual features
Atribute Accuracy: Mostly reliable, especially data sourced from recent flood studies. Many older features have 'unknown' as the attribute values
Logical Consistency: Data of similar type have the same attribute structure. Logical consistency is checked when updating.
Data Source: Data has initially been drawn from authoritative sources through the digitisation project in 1998/1999 known ans the Flood Data Trasfer Project. Detail is primarily aligned to varing versions of Vicmap and other assorted data. Recent flood studies are largely based on high resolution DEMs, while some rural areas were mapped from oblique photogaphy and 'best estimate' principles by floodplain managers. Positional accuracy of all content, although accepted as meeting a reasonable level of alignment, cannot therefore be accurately stated. An reliability and modified date attribute is given for every feature in the VFD. Users must therefore read the reliability attribute of any given feature in order to determine whether it is fit for purpose.
