Abstract: This layer represents the modelled extent of Ecological Vegetation Classes in 1750 (EVC's as described by Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Division) at scales ranging from 1:25,000 to 1:100,000

It is the master EVC dataset from which NV1750_EVCBCS and NV2005_EVCBCS are derived.

Purpose: This layer is the master vegetation typology dataset. This dataset will be maintained and improved over time. It includes attributes that describe the projects for which the spatial data was collected and information relating to the last polygon edit. (It does NOT include bioregion boundaries or bioregional conservation status or geographic occurrence) It is assumed that most users of vegetation data will use one or both of the derived vegetation datasets - NV1750_EVCBCS and NV2005_EVCBCS. These datasets include EVCs, Bioregion-EVCs (the vegetation unit associated with benchmarks) bioregional conservation status and geographic occurrence . However they do NOT include any data capture history.

Positional Accuracy: The SCALE item specifies the data capture scale which varies from 1:25,000 to 1:100,000
Atribute Accuracy: Based on attribute checking procedures: 1. polygons GT 4ha:an error of 1 in 50 ( approximately 98% accuracy ). 2. polygons LT 4ha: an error of 1 in 20 ( approximately 95% accuracy )
Logical Consistency: There is a many to one relationship between the redefined item EVCFC (floristic community) and EVC item (ecological vegetation class). This relationship is expressed in the lookup table EVC_FC.LUT.
Data Source: This dataset has been developed as the result of a series of projects: Box-Ironbark: EVC and floristic community mapping for Goldfields study area, with linework drawing on 1:25,000 forest stand class boundaries, updating with RFA mapping. Central Highlands : Floristic community mapping for Melbourne II LCC Review, enhanced with central Highlands Old-growth forest and Regioanl Forest Agreement EVC mapping. East Gippsland: LCC Structural Vegetation and Geological mapping, updated with RFA mapping. North East: EVC mapping for the North East Old-growth Forest study, updated with RFA mapping. Gippsland: EVC mapping for the Gippsland Old-growth Forest study and Regional forest Agreement. Goulburn: EVC mapping for Goulburn Broken Catchment. Grampians: EVC mapping for the Greater Grampians Floristic Vegetation Mapping Project and the Western Region Forest Agreement, updated with RFA mapping. Otways-Midlands: EVC mapping for the Otways-Midlands Old-growth Forest study and Western Regional Forest Agreement. Portland-Wimmera:EVC mapping for the Portland-Wimmera Old-growth Forest study and Western Regional Forest Agreement. Port Phillip/Westernport: EVC mapping for the Port Phillip/Westernport EVC Mapping Project North West: EVC mapping for the North-West EVC Study undertaken by the three NW Catchment Management Authorities (Mallee, Wimmera and North Central CMAs) Active floodplain of N and NW river systems: VEAC River Red gum project (2006) Barmah Forest: Detailed vegetation mapping within Barmah Forest and other nearby Murray River sites (2006) Alpine Areas: Detailed vegetation mapping for treeless alpine areas(ARI, 2006) Grassy/Woody: Improved delineation of Plains Grassland/Plains Grassy Woodland EVCs, pre1750(ARI,2007)
Completeness: As of March 1998 the dataset covers EVC mapping for the Central Highlands RFA area, East Gippsland RFA area and North-East RFA area.
